A cream you put on dry hair before you wash it. Aloe vera, coconut oil, onion seed oil, kapur kachri and rosemary. Leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes, then shampoo as usual. Dry, rough hair comes out softer and easier to comb.

Take a generous scoop. Roots to tips, a little extra on the ends.

Coconut oil

The base of the Sunday champi in most South Indian homes. Coats each strand so the shampoo doesn't strip it dry.

Aloe vera (kumari)

Kumari in Ayurveda, long used to cool the scalp. Adds slip, so it spreads like a cream, not an oil.

Onion seed oil (kalonji)

Upakunchika in Ayurvedic texts. Its oil has gone into Indian hair oils for generations.

Kapur kachri (shati)

A fragrant root from the old herbal hair wash powders. Gives the cream its earthy smell.

Rosemary & lavender

Essential oils for the scalp and a clean, herby smell.

Before you buy

Can I use it on an oily scalp?

Yes. Put more on the lengths and less on the scalp, and shampoo well.

How often should I use it?

Two to three times a week, before your hair wash.

Is it okay on coloured hair, or hair after keratin?

Yes. That's who it was made for. Use a mild, sulphate-free shampoo after.

Will it leave my hair greasy?

No. It's a prewash, so it washes out with your shampoo.

Can I leave it on overnight?

We'd keep it to 30–60 minutes. It's made to go on before a wash.
